With the official creation of a new subsidiary called Ingenio in 1998, Loto-Québec demonstrated a certain degree of boldness. No other business in the world had up to then ventured so far as to develop instant lotteries based on multimedia technology. On February 29, 2000, Loto-Québec subsidiary Ingenio rocked the traditional lottery market with the launch of the very first CD-ROM-based lottery, Treasure Tower. This innovative lottery was a prime example of the predetermined-outcome lottery concept, a technology that Ingenio developed and patented.
Ingenio has since developed a whole range of interactive games that have found markets beyond the province's borders - Belgium, French-speaking Switzerland and the U.S. states of New Jersey and Oregon - thereby placing Loto-Québec's know-how in the international spotlight. Ingenio also conducts R&D for other gaming sectors, such as casinos and bingo, in conjunction with partners from the gaming industry the world over.
